The evolution of cardiovascular-based procedures, technologies, and biomarkers have allowed for earlier diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disorders. However, the increased burden of an older population has meant that the probability of such illnesses is becoming more commonplace in society and thus clinical practice.

This has led to increased interest in new technologies and therapeutic options to better treat patients, which have not necessarily led to better clinical outcomes and reduced mortality of patients. Some successes include the use of percutaneous approaches to manage valve degeneration and re-purposing of diabetes medications for treating cardiovascular disorders, thus moving the field towards less invasive procedures.

It is in this context that BMC Cardiovascular Disorders is launching a collection exploring current significant progress and challenges for cardiology. We are welcoming Research articles, Case reports, Debates and Reviews on all aspects of research from preclinical and translational investigations progressing cures and identifying issues, through to clinical observations, artificial intelligence, and epidemiological studies.

To submit your manuscript, please use our online submission system at BMC Cardiovascular Disorders. Please indicate in your cover letter that you would like the article to be considered for the ‘Current innovations & barriers in managing cardiovascular disorders’ thematic series.

If you would like to inquire about the suitability of a study for consideration, please read BMC Cardiovascular Disorder's submission guidelines and then email a presubmission enquiry to ciaran.fitzpatrick@springernature.com.

Deadline for submissions: 30 May 2020
