Pre-implant galectin-3 levels predict postoperative mortality following LVAD placement. a ROC analysis of patients with severe HF revealed a cut-off value of 35.4 ng/ml as predictive of poor outcome (sensitivity of 66.7 % and specificity of 84.2 %, p = 0.025). b Patients with galectin-3 level >30 ng/ml at the time of LVAD implantation showed higher mortality during the first 2 years post-LVAD implantation (log rank p = 0.0086)
