Table 1 Participant selection criteria

Adults (minimum 18 years old)

< 18 years old

Previous diagnosis of MI by a physician*

MI not confirmed by physician and/or chest pain attributed to another cause

MI occurred > 5 months pre-interview

MI within previous 5 months

English language understood and spoken fluently

Cannot converse fluently in English language

Permanent address in the UK

Living predominantly outside the UK

Medically fit to undertake interview

Hearing and/or memory impairment including dementia severe enough to affect ability to accurately answer questions and recall information
