Real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis of periostin (a), TGF-β1 (b), TGF-β1 R II (c), Type I (d), and Type III collagens (e) mRNA expressions in the hearts of control rats, DCM rats, and valsartan-treated diabetic rats. DCM group showed significantly enhanced periostin, TGF-β1, TGF-β1 R II, Type I and III collagen mRNA expressions compared with control rats, while in valsartan-treated diabetic group, the mRNA expressions were decreased compared to DCM group. A total of six samples for each group were used, and each sample was run in triplicate for real-time PCR. Data were shown as mean ± SEM. *P < 0.05 vs. control; #P < 0.05 vs. DCM
